The first under 14's match against Lathallan was a closely contested match with Mackie managing to pull off a win. Mackie had real cohesion, with some players really stepping up to the challenge.
For the second match against Ellon, the Lads knew they had a massive task on their hands with this well drilled opposition, but our team put in a good account of themselves. Alas, too many missed tackles and Ellon’s fast bench players coming on, we were short off the mark, which resulted in a win for Ellon.
The final game was against Montrose, with one of our main point scorers out in the first half, we were left chasing shadows. The object of these games is to develop our team, so we thought it only right to put on the remaining team, and it has to be said they did themselves proud. They weren’t going to catch the speeding backs of the opposition, but in close contact, their handling skills were good, and they never gave up.
I can honestly say I was proud of our team. 7s Rugby is a very fast game, and our team consisted of more forward players than any other team there. We sadly don’t have the luxury of picking from a large squad of players, and with a few injuries, we were even worse for wear.
Never the less we did our best getting a win and quite a few tries from the other two winning teams.
Our aim is to get better, and the signs are there with some superb tackling and better handling shown at times. Mackie conducted themselves well and should still be proud
Well done.
