It was a bright day at RGC’s rugby pitches and as the sun was out.

Mackie kicked off against Highland and with Mackie not switched on, it would be Highland to score the first two tries that were both unconverted. With Mackie having a few words, they switched on and with great enthusiasm and ambition it was Duncan Inglis to go over the line to score to get Mackie back into the game, with Matt Brady successfully converting the try.

Mackie got their rhythm and it was sure enough to be Mackie’s Aedan Milne to score the next try. Unfortunately it was unconverted by Matt Brady. Mackie not giving Highland any chance to score, it was Jacob Armstrong-Williams to score just before half time, with Oscar Wilson to successfully convert the try.

After halftime ended, Mackie saw to end their first game of the tournament on a high and sure enough they did, with Mackie’s Sam Baddley to score the next try and it was successfully converted by Matt Brady. Then with Mackie fired up, it was Murray McLaughlin to score and unfortunately it was unconverted by Oscar Wilson. Just before the end of the first match Magnus Frame made it over the try line for the last try of the game, with Oscar Wilson being able to successfully convert the try, the first match had ended 38-10.

Mackie being overthrown with joy, they were to go against a very strong George Watson's team and they weren’t there to play easy or give Mackie a single inch on the pitch and they managed to keep a clean sheet, leaving the final score to be 52-0.

It was then Mackie to go up against GHA and with Mackie lacking the confidence they needed to see them through the match, GHA managed to keep a clean sheet, with the score being 42-0.

With Mackie performing just that bit better against GHA than George Watson's, they were to go up against Ellon next and Mackie weren’t leaving the pitch without a fight. It was Ellon to score first with a converted try and Mackie weren’t going to have this game be like the last two, so picking their heads up it was Matt Brady to score, with an unconverted try. Mackie’s try gave them the push they needed to take the lead and they sure enough took it with Aedan Milne going over the try line for his second try of the day, unfortunately the conversion wasn’t successful.

It was half time and Mackie was eager to play even better than the first half. It was Murray McLaughlin to score for his second try of the day which was successfully converted. With Mackie getting comfortable, Ellon came at Mackie to take it for the winning, with them scoring twice with one converted. Mackie weren’t going to hand Ellon the win that easy with Harris Gill going over the line to get Mackie further up the scoreboard with the try being successfully converted. Then it would be Henry Aitken with the try being unconverted. Ellon would then score the next two tries, being both unsuccessfully converted, leaving the end score 29-29 letting the deciding games going forward to point difference.

Ellon had more points scored in the pool stages getting them into the higher final. Mackie were determined to bring home silverware back to Redcloak and were to play Grammar in the final.

In the first half it was Aedan Milne to score his third try of the day with Henry Aitken to successfully convert the try. Mackie with great passion go over the line again and it was Murray McLaughlin to score his third of the day as well with Oscar Wilson successfully converting the try.

It was now the second half and Mackie having a few scrapes and bumps, they really wanting to empty their tanks on the pitch and give their all. Unfortunately it wasn’t enough to stand against Grammar's team, with them going into the second half scoring three converted tries to take the game for the winning.

To all the players that are injured, I wish you all a speedy recovery. A few players that stood out for me today were Oscar Wilson for his excellent kicking, Matt Brady for some fantastic try-saving tackles and Aedan Milne for great footwork and line breaks and also to Murray McLaughlin to earn big mac which i can assure was well deserved. A very big thanks to Tom, Bruce and Rudi for being our Coaches today - you all did exceptionally, and to our bus driver Steven a very big thanks.
