Saturday saw the seniors final game of rugby for the 25/26 season. This season has been a long one for all involved but didn’t deter Mackie from forming a strong and full squad. We saw a high scoring game on Saturday with gusty but otherwise great conditions.
Aberdeenshire started strong with an early converted try. Followed shortly with a converted try from Mackie all within the first 10 minutes. Mackie do what they can to capitalise with the wind behind them stabbing many kicks through, keeping Aberdeenshire under pressure. This didn’t stop Aberdeenshire from answering all that was asked of them half time saw Aberdeenshire 28 - Mackie 21.
The second half brought lots of drama with Aberdeenshire receiving 2 yellow cards and Mackie capitalising on this. The score now saw Mackie leading with 33, to Aberdeenshire’s 28. This would unfortunately for the home side be the only points they scored in the second half of this physical and final battle of the season. With the wind now well and truly behind the travelling Aberdeenshire team capitalising on mistakes and utilising the weather managed to find themselves in the lead 52-33. The final whistle blew at Redcloak for the final time of the 25/26 season for the home team. A valiant effort with a massive physical effort from the squad to finish up a long season.
