A great performance from the whole squad who proved they "still had it"!

Delayed Deeside Report

(Not due to pitchside reporting but editor in chief being a tad busy)

Saturday 10th May began with the normal weather for the Deeside Rugby Festival ... blue skies, hot sunshine and plenty suncream!

The playing pitch conditions were inspected and it was decided as the ground was rock hard it would be touch rugby ... no contact!

Although the squad, and many other P6 players, were disappointed there would be no contact they carried out some touch rugby small sided games and activities to remind themselves they were flat out the best team at this style of rugby.

The squad were pumped and primed ready for their 1st pool game against Ellon. They started off surprisingly well and held out till the end to come out on top.

Ellon 1 : 4 Mackie

It was back to back games for the squad and after a very short break were back out again but this time against Deeside. Another strong start with the famous Mackie wall holding its own and slowly but surely the team pushed up as as line putting pressure on the opposition and giving Mackie a comfortable win.

Mackie 6 : 0 Deeside

Next up were Pelicans which the whole squad knew they were all going to have to play well if they wished to get that clean sweep run of wins from the pool games.
As a team they kept the Mackie wall intact and moved the ball into space but with much better execution.

Mackie 3 : 0 Pelicans

With the pool games now over the squad switched their attentions to the final which was to be agsinst Aberdeen Wanderers.

Mackie's wall did not break as The Wands could not find a breaking point and Mackie's attack proved equally as strong with 3 strong tries being scored.

Mackie 3 : 0 Wanderers

Shout out to Henry for his dodging and weaving footwork which 9 times out of 10 led to a try being scored.

Another shout out to Brodie for his break down tries he scored througout all the games.

Final shout out must go to Charlie "chase down" M who chased down not 1 but 2 attackers to prevent tries being scored over the Mackie try line.

Thanks as always to parents and guardians for getting the players there, for keeping them fueled up (the icecreams were ace) and being the 9th player from the touch lines.

A great performance from the whole squad who proved they "still had it"!
