2nd round of the NE Minis League
A rescheduled game at Hazelhead Park against Aberdeen Wanderers saw the squad's 1st game of 2025.
Dustythefitnesspainmaster had them runnin' aboot in the sharp, crisp air whilst the playing area was being set out.
Next up Gareththedefencecoach had one half of the squad bashing, boshing, scrambling and tackling whilst Andywackysocks2 had the other half toes, heels, heads, hands to win the races and win the rucks.
Frankiepitchsideconsultant hosted the pre game "take a knee" chat and the squad finished off with their feared Mackie Chant.
Aberdeen Wanderers offered to game coach the 1st half and Mackie were lacking their SCOTS principles and were soon a few tries down within 10 minutes.
As the morning Sun began to warm the air it seemed to have the same effect on Mackie players rugby brains as they started to show they could get the ball back in defence as they created opportunities to fiercely counter ruck, got back on their feet and into the game, increased their line speed and got those tackles nice and low in the green zone.
Half time chat and the squad were asked to identify what they needed to keep doing and what they needed to stop doing.
2nd half commenced with Mackie game coach however "time off" was called and Mackie were advised to stay onside (take 3 steps back at the breakdown) else penalties would be coming.
Mackie's defence remained strong but they increasingly beat the defence as they attacked the space through and around the Wanderers defensive lines, used quick rucks and attacking kicks.
The score board kept ticking over for both teams however Mackie used their rugby brains in the nervy last 3 minutes to see out the win.
Final score.
Aberdeen Wanderers 11 : Mackie 12
It was a very physical match but Mackie's edge was its team spirit.
Thanks as always to the parents/ guardians who got the players to the game and for being the 9th player on touchline offering that ever present positive support.
Remember to ask your rugby brain what is the one thing I need to stop doing and the one thing I need to start doing to improve my rugby skills.
