The weather in Stonehaven, coupled with a flood alert, presented a challenge for the coaching team as they had to adapt their plans and make the run work.
A pre-evening frenzy saw the run to be set at our training home at Mackie Academy around the Mackie Mile. The scene was set!
The P7 players had sought sponsorship for their run from the rest of the Mackie players at P3, 4, 5, 6, family and friends. Many thanks to everyone who contributed.
Meanwhile, the coaching team, with additional help from #Angelathesprintingcoach and #Paulthendurorunningcoach, set about to tackle this unfamiliar task.
Dustythefitnesspainmaster and Gareththedefencecoach gathered the team and divided them into two groups of three and one of four.
A warm-up began with the squad stretching their legs, arms and core before being given the match ball to start the first leg.
The first group showed plenty of determination, great cheer and enthusiasm. They ran with the ball in hand, their spirits high.
The next team then took ball to complete their leg and then followed by Gareththedefencecoach with the final four players for the last leg around the Mackie Mile.
The event progressed with each team member and coach completing three circuits each to reach the required 50km.
The squad worked hard and effortlessly as a team, encouraging those who struggled and playing to their strengths. It was a pleasure to watch each group complete the distance and then repeat.
GRIT, bravery, team spirit, and old-fashioned camaraderie ensured that the Mackie P7 team completed their combined 50km with the final run to Redcloak still to come.
An orderly and well paced run up to Redcloak began to take the match ball on its final leg. With a good pace they arrived at Redcloak to the cheers of adoring fans.
After a small break the team clapped on the 1st XV and then were piped onto the pitch by Iain "Skirlie" McFadden in true Murrayfield style.
Thanks to both Highland RFC and Mackie for the team photo.
The squad seemed chuffed at opportunity and a well done from the players for their efforts for their tour.
The match ball was finally released and handed to the Mackie Captain and the squad were piped off the pitch.
A great event and day.
Thank you to everyone who brought, helped, ran, fed, played, encouraged and sponsored the squad.
