P4 Team Session

After talking to Gareth our #P7defencecoach it was going to be a big set of boots I needed to fill for today's session, especially as he always like to be Brave and the P4 players were wanting to tackle anything that moved with a rugby ball.

Thanks to Emma, our very own P4 helper and female rugby player, for getting the players warmed up with their hearts pumping and muscles stretched and warmed up.

#P7Andywackysocks2 arrived and players were split into 2 teams, gumshields in and a game of scrag was put into play. The game was modified, made chillie hot, by getting the players to use 2 hands/ arms to tackle and to Self-Ogranise/ self-police themselves once they had been tackled.

It was an interesting watch and next up Andywackysocks2 had the players tackling the tackle towers. The focus was to get the boot in the hoop and use the same boot/ same shoulder. It was great to see there were some natural "lefties" in the squad as naturally tackling with the left boot and left shoulder is not common.

Once the squad had shown how Tenacious they were the focus then switched to the " eye to thigh" so that players were tackling below the belly button or in the green zone.

Thanks to Emma and the 2 parents who Selflessly kept picking and realigning the tackle towers.

There was a short wrestling activity where the player on the ground had to "roll away" whilst the player on the top had to keep the other pinned down on the ground. It looked like there was plenty of players who he plenty of core strength.

Not one for dithering about Andywackysocks2, with the help of Emma, got the players into 2 teams for the final game of scrag. Again an interesting watch as it was plain to see that when attacking players were "running at" the defending players there was lots of boots in hoops, eyes to thighs and same boots/ shoulders.

The game was made chillie spicy as Andywackysocks2 then introduced "the freeze" which allowed the famous Mackie Wall realign and allow defenders to get the ball back by going forwards and tackling low.

As some beyond the gate/rugby homework) remember to ask yourself what is the one thing I need to stop doing and the one thing I need to start doing to improve my tackling skills?
