Front Row Factory

Nicole Robertson4 May - 21:41

JS Coaching welcomes you to Front Row Factory

The Front Row Factory is a focused 5-week training block designed for young athletes aged U13 to U18 who want to master the essential skills and mindset of front row play. Whether you’re a seasoned tighthead, a developing hooker, or a new loosehead looking to learn, this programme will sharpen your technical ability, develop physical resilience, and raise your rugby IQ around one of the game’s most critical areas – the scrum and lineout.

Scrum Shape – Foundation of Power

Week by week, we’ll work on body position, joint alignment, and core strength to help players build an effective and safe scrum shape. Key focuses include:

  • Neck, spine and hip alignment for optimal force transfer and injury prevention.
  • Foot placement and body height for balance, control, and adaptability under pressure.
  • Individual profile development – helping each player understand how their body type can be best used in the front row.

Scrum Skill – Technique Under Pressure

Scrummaging isn’t just brute strength – it’s timing, feel, and coordination. We’ll break down:

  • Engagement timing and bind technique for better connection and stability.
  • Load and chase mechanics to dominate the hit and stay square through the contest.

Sessions will feature live contested scrums, technical drills, and position-specific feedback.

Set Piece Skills – Become a Total Front Rower

To be effective at the next level, front row players must contribute far beyond the scrum. We’ll cover:

  • Hooking technique and throw timing for hookers, with reps under pressure.
  • Lifting for props and timing of the lift.

This block is about developing confident, technically sound, and game-ready front row players.
