The Lathallan Snowdrop Rugby 7s was going to be a long day for the P7 players but they arrived changed and ready to play at a prompt 10.30 KO but that was not before the Opening Ceremony where the School's Pipe Band beat the drums and outward tunes were heard from the pipes.
The squad's first pool game was against Robert Gordon's College where the team slowly moved through the gears but ended with a 5 :4 victory.
The squad returned back to base for a debrief, time to decompress, recharge the batteries and top up the fluids.
A short and sharp set of warm up activities to get the players pumped and primed for their next pool followed with simple messages from the coaches of pressure in defence, pass/pass/ go, pop/pass/ go and kick and chase.
The squad started well and maintained the pressure resulting in a 5:2 victory over Strathmore Sharks and them securing the position of outright Pool winners.
The squad returned back to base for a debrief, time to decompress, recharge the batteries and top up the fluids.
A short and sharp set of warm up activities to get the players pumped and primed for their semi final game and again simple messages from the coaches of pressure in defence, pass/pass/ go, pop/pass/ go and kick and chase.
This game proved tougher and was much more closely contested as sooner had 1 team scored the other followed. However the squad finished victorious with a 5:4 win over Strahenddrick/ Balfron HS.
The squad returned back to base for a debrief, time to decompress, recharge the batteries and top up the fluids.
A short and sharp set of warm up activities to get the players pumped and primed for their cup final game with a simple message that this was their final and they knew they had demonstrated they had the skills, motivation and desire to be worthy winners.
The everyone in the squad got the opportunity to get game time in the cup final however their opponents were just too strong and the squad took their first defeat of the tournament with a final score of 6 :1
At the prize giving Izzy received the player of the U12/ P7 tournament and the whole squad received the Lathallan U12/ P7 Rugby Sevens Runners Up Plate.
Thanks must go to our hosts for organising the event which allowed the squad to show off the skills they have developed over the season thus far.
Finally, thanks also goes out to family and friends who got the players to the event and who were pitch side to cheer on the squad as they certainly were the 8th player on the pitch.
