The warm up activity, corner ball, began in the chaos square. Various new "laws and sanctions "were put into place to encourage evasive skills from the players within the square.
Next into an 8 v 8 game on a playing area the size they would be playing in for festivals and tournaments. Some players were like "how much space coach?"
Water break ensued where the players were asked, if it was safe to do so, if they could walk/cycle to school, walk/run with their families in order to get "rugby fit", especially after the game they had just completed in the correctly sized playing area.
The next 2 activities were run side by side. One to promote good rugby ball handing skills the other to attack at speed and create the overlap in the outside channel. Each side then swapped over.
The last game of 8 v 8 showed some great safe tackle techniques, keeping the ball alive play and overlaps to create space in the outside channels.
The game coach introduced scrummaging for the first time. 6 shoulders, 6 feet, heads going to the left and the scrum half rolling the rugby ball into the uncontested scrum was highly received by the players on both sides.
Remember to ask your rugby brain what is the 1 thing I need to stop doing and the 1 thing I need to start doing to improve your rugby skills.
