Mackie S2 v Perthshire S2 .
Sunday 28th August @ Redcloak.
So after a long summer break & 3 weeks of training under their belts it was back to the business end of things with our first league match of the season in the Red Conference against familiar opposition in the name of Perthshire rugby .
A step up in age grade rugby also means a step up in the number of players being used in a match ,so the boys were finding themselves playing with a full compliment of 15 in a competitive match for the first time .
Not many tweeks made to the squad in general with our front five being the same reliable lads as the previous season with the addition of Rhys & Alec at openside & blindside flankers respectively & Iain slotting into his all too familiar role at 8 .
Perthshire were sporting to what might possibly be the biggest front row that our boys have came up against in recent history but size and bulk has no equal to skill and perseverance in the dark depths of the scrum with our boys dominating from the off in what proved to be a very one sided affair between the two packs with the Mackie 8 looking like they were revelling in the challenge!
Game on ,and the Mackie backs were showing some real determination with some great runs and skills with ball in hand which very quickly resulted in the boys running in 11 tries to 1 over the course of the match using the new moves that they had been practising in training over the past few weeks to great effect ....major plaudits going to our captain for the day Harris who ran in 6 tries with some mesmerising runs through the opposition, not forgetting further scores from Dylan , Finlay Taylor, Iain , Lennon & Cameron (CP1 ), accompanied by some fine kicking at goal by Rikki with an 8 from 10 conversion rate ..
All in all a good day out at the office with a final score of 41-3 against a very spirited Perthshire side who never gave up and got their consolation score in the closing minutes of the game much to the disappointment of the lads who had switched off for a minute !
Harder matches against more skilfully set & organised opposition will come in due course but today was about putting down a marker for the club to let every one of our fellow rivals know that the boys mean business ...
