Mackie Triumphant on a sunny Sat in Elgin

Mackie S2 versus Gordonstoun
20th September 2015

On a perfect sunny late summer day Mackie travelled north to Morayshire to take on Gordonstoun to enjoy the groomed grass pitches and well-appointed facilities of the home side
Mackie had most of the early pressure with the forwards dominant but this was resisted by solid defence from the home side close to their own line. After quarter of an hour, however, a scrum released Joseph in a weaving surge down the centre to score under the posts. More pressure in the 22 a few minutes later led to a close range try, again from Joseph – this time close to the left corner. Just before half time Cameron Thain popped up in the middle to storm over under the posts followed by the first conversion of the day by James. The sides changed sides at half time with the score standing at 10 – 0 to the visiting side.
The second half belonged to Mackie - with the lion’s share of possession translated this time into more points. Early on Oscar scored to the left of the posts. Soon afterwards good work by Finlay down the left created space for Joseph to run in for a try near the posts and this time the conversion was successful. Now Mackie were playing a more expansive game with the ball reaching Murray more frequently resulting in four successive tries from the flying winger. The first of these, on the left wing followed a penalty in the centre with James delivering the assisting pass. This was followed by a try in the left corner set up by a break by Joseph. The third, on the right hand side, was created by turnover ball and competitive rucking by the forwards who were dominant for the entire game. Murray’s final try was preceded by a slanting left to right run that outflanked the covering defence on the left hand side.
Final score 29 – 0 to Mackie.
