Having never played Orkney it was good to receive the invite from Garioch to play a couple of games on a cold and frosty February morning, the pitch just passed and inspection so it was game on. The game started well with the Mackie back row continually making ground and working hard at the break down. It was an even contest through the first period with a strong forwards battle between Mackie and the islanders. The dead lock was broken by Mackie with one of 2 tries from Drew. And fortunately for Mackie Robbie had his kicking boots on as he never missed a conversion. Mackie scored a further 4 tries through Eoin, Fraser, Nathan Robbie Euan R. As the game progressed the Mackie forwards took control in the set piece and open play, with some strong running from an inform Fergus Inglis. There was also some good attacking lines run by the backs , if it wasn’t for some brave last ditch tackles by Orkney the score would have been very different. All in all a good day, and a return match would be more than welcomed.
