Hard day at the office

The Mackie v Perth game started well with both teams having a go in the middle of the pitch, With a good defensive showing from both sides. As both teams were looking for the early break, the first break coming late in the first period after sustained pressure from Mackie, Perth turned over the ball and broke for the Mackie line and a try was scored in the corner. This was the pattern of the game with some well worked moves only to turn the ball over in open play, and poor tackling allowing the Perth boys into score. Perth didn’t have it all their own way as the score line may suggest, Mackie made a game of it in the middle of the pitch, and made a couple of very hard and direct runs but were shut down very quickly by the Perth defence, only to loose the ball due to lack of support in the contact area. As the game progressed Perth seemed to take control with a two try cushion, Mackie kept up the pressure clawing back the scores and never giving up the fight with several line breaks from Fraser, Liam, and Nathan. Ethan Thomas never stopped working and orchestrated some set moves from standoff with little gain, as he came upon a dogged Perth defense. We have been working on the link between forwards and backs at training, this worked well when we moved Max into the outside center role and he played his best game of rugby all season. Well done to all the boys who played out of position, I hope you enjoyed it(Fin) This was an improved performance from our last outing but we still have a lot to work on.
