This was the first outing for the combined S1/S2 squad who faced up to a well organised and motivated Deeside squad. The first two twenty minute sessions went well as both teams were evenly matched as was the score. The third twenty minute session was a different affair altogether. Deeside had more of the possession and used it effectively passing the ball to their inside center who ran very hard and direct lines at the Mackie defence. We were simply outplayed in the third period and the boys knew it. This may be down to several changes which affected the continuity of the team, as we had a large number of S1 players requiring game time, and several S2 players were rested as they had been selected to play in the U15 fixture which was being played directly after. All in all a steep learning curve for all involved but there was some good hard rugby played in the first two sessions. Lots to work on especially squad sizes for mixed matches.
