Impressive team play by the S2's

Sunday saw out first game of the season away to Garioch on what proved to be a wet and windy day. A winning score of 55 - 6 for Mackie based on 3 for a try and 1 for a conversion was outstanding to see Mackie S2's run in a staggering 15 tries, and for Robbie to slot over 10 conversions. With both teams running lean on number of players, Mackie provided a couple of players throughout the game to Garioch. The Garioch team are known to us and have a couple big and very talented players in their squad. The Mackie boys were well aware of this from playing them last season, and our centre's were quick off the line every time to close down the dominant Garioch player which dramatically reduced his impact of play.

Since starting back this season Eric, Stuart and Ciaran have been impressed by our S2 squad, they have really matured over the summer in terms of physicality, and their attitude to rugby. Training has been meaningful with great turnout of numbers, and this really showed during the Garioch game. An early break try from Liam put the Garioch players on the back-foot in the opening minutes, and we mixed the game up at every opportunity with 8 different players scoring tries. The game for the coaches was really captured in the work that went into the last try which played out as follows.

Kieran Mi was making a break down the left side when taken into touch. A line out was formed and with great lifting work for our forwards, an outstretched Levi stole the ball perfectly in the air whilst taking it down securely, perfect turn and body position with his forwards turning in, and driving into a maul position, unfortunately the ball was lost forward afterwards. Scrum down and mackie turn it over again, off the back of the scrum, and a perfectly executed backs move "sexton ball" saw Ethan pass to robbie, as ethan looped round again to receive a pop pass from Robbie, passed again to Liam who put the ball out wide to Fin who was at the right hand touch line resulting in Fin diving over the white wash to score in the right corner, "textbook" is how the coaches summarised it as we watched the impressive play.

Please keep up the hard work at training as results like this is where it will show.

Try scores as follows - Liam - 3, Ethan - 4, Euan - 1, Matthew - 2, Eoin - 2, Josh - 1, Kieran Mo- - 1, Fin - 1. Robbie kicked 10 conversions which is an excellent kicking rate for a new player on a wet and windy day.

Captain of the day was Fraser Lindsay.

No man of the match awarded as total "team play and team win".
