Once everyone arrived we did pretty well

The Mackie players, and their parents, arrived at Moray RFC in dribs and drabs and this concerned the whole party as we were due to start with 11 until the eventual arrival of Nathan, Finlay and and a car-sick Matthew Reid. Moray kindly held up the kick-off so the boys could change and the pre-match worries turned out to be the only concerns we had that day as Mackie turned in a really good performance to over-power Moray 14 tries to 2!

It was really pleasing to see the team rucking their opponents off the ball and getting the nudge on in the scrum to win several strikes against the head. In open play, the S1's and S2's gelled well and the mix of pace, finding space and off-loading proved too much for the opposition. This meant that, as well as some barn-storming individual tries, there were some really well-worked, coach-pleasing team tries.

Defense was generally good too, with 1-on-1 tackles and some organisation at times. Moray never gave up and did break through on a number of occasions but the Mackie players scrambled really well to snuff out their attacks.

Overall, there are still things to work on but this game was another step in the right direction for both year groups and the players can be really proud of their efforts. Well done!
