Mackie resumed their Premier League campaign against visitors Ellon on Sunday and were dominant from the first play of the ball. From the kick off Mackie secured the ball and made good use of direct running lines and slick handling to find themselves crossing the Ellon line for the opening score of the game. This was to set the pattern for the game, and Ellon were no match for the Mackie side whose backs displayed great confidence in their ball handling skills allowing the ball to do the work, time and time again splitting the Ellon defence to sheds.
The Mackie forwards were also in the ascendancy in the scrum, taking several strikes against the head, in the ruck and with loads of bullocking runs towards to opposition try line too for all to enjoy, securing plenty ball for the rampant backs to convert into points.
The only negative on an otherwise impressive performance, was the lack of discipline that cost the loss of two players to the sin bin for ten minutes.
With the Mackie side reduced to 13 players for a short period of time in the second half, Ellon were able to utilise their extra numbers to cross the line for a consolation try.
Losing the try only strengthened the Mackie sides resolve, and they played out the remainder of the game, as they had began, scoring a further two tries to round off a splendid team effort, and a wonderful 52 – 5 victory.
Well done boys
