There was plenty of rugby on show at Redcloak on Sunday with no less than 5 travelling teams decending on Stonehaven.

After a heavy loss in Inverness the boys were keen to show Highland what they were made of.

With opening exchanges going Mackie's way it wasn't long before we had the first score. The boys in green penalised for not rolling away in the tackle set up Kieran Dyer for shot at the opening points.

The penalty kick hit the cross bar on its way over giving Mackie a 3-0 lead early on.

After controlling the opening of the game the Mackie boys slipped up and after some hard work by the visiting forwards Highland managed to get over the line. Their kicker added the extras to give them a 3-7 lead.

A mistake in the Mackie line out deep in their own half cost them dearly as Highland gathered the ball and scored out wide. The conversion hit the post but Highland stretched their lead to 3-12.

Mackie, now enjoying some prolonged possession, are putting the visitors under pressure in their own 22. After giving away a couple penalties, a tap and pass to Kieran Fulton saw him force his through a few players and over the line. Dyer unable to get enough distance with his kick so score moves to 8-12.

Unfortunately Highland hit back just before half time with a converted try to wipe out Mackie's recent efforts. (8-19)

The second half was a much closer affair with neither side managing to keep possession for long periods.

With only a few minutes left Highland sealed the victory by working the ball out wide and scoring near the corner. Mackie hooker Lewis Shand was also shown a yellow for a high tackle in the build up, while he walked off the conversion was missed. (8-24)

There was some good rugby on show from both sides, and Mackie can take pride in a performance that is much better than what they showed a few weeks ago.
