After a poor first half where the Mackie pack struggled to contain the larger Ellon forwards they found themselves 2 tries down going into the break.
The second half started off much the same as the first ended, Mackie struggling to compete at the breakdown where they were constantly under pressure from the heavy Ellon pack.
The constant pressure and lack of possession going against them saw another 2 tries conceded in the second half.
But something then changed in towards the end of the game, Mackie started winning more ball and gaining more possession, this allowed the Mackie backs to get more involved in the game and soon saw them creating gaps and getting in behind the tiring Ellon defence.
From this Mackie were able to score 3 tries, one each for Connor Anderson, Alexander Evison and captain Adam Taylor.
This brought the Mackie boys to within 7 points of the home team and looked like they may just be able to pull off a hard fought draw.
Unfortunately time wasn't on their side and the referee blew the final whistle to end it at 24-17.
The boys can take heart from the last 20 mins of the game where they finally showed what they can do, they showed superior fitness and when they got going produced some good rugby.
