Mackie 25 vs Garioch 15
Mackie 25 - Garioch 15: A tough and uncompromising encounter!
On a damp dreich day this lifted the mood of all those lucky enough to watch an uncompromising game of full-on rugby between two good sides. Mackie varied play between forwards and backs and defied their tag as slow starters to storm ahead with a try after 8 minutes and despite some tense moments, they never surrendered the lead and always looked stronger. The game did ebb and flow with Garioch contributing some good passages of play in their turn and scoring 3 tries in all and staying within a score for much of the duration of the game and it took until 15 minutes from time until Mackie made the game reasonably safe, pulling two scores clear. Mackie forwards are becoming a force at this level, certainly in loose play, with Mitch Smith, Ben Cowburn and Matt Foster prominent in the pack. They will go on to be an impressive and intimidating unit if they can firm up their scrummaging and some slack moments at the lineout. The back division have some clever flourishes and can spin the ball wide efficiently as well as using intelligent kicking to turn their opponents; Greg Hartley and Lyle Venters the eye catching players on this outing. Plenty of pace on view in attack and a great blitz defence when under pressure. In the end 4 tries, 1 penalty, 1 conversion to 3 tries, in favour of Mackie.
The most impressive thing about this Mackie side is that they have added a real desire to win, to undoubted talent. Good game, Good win. Mackie now head to Thurso full of confidence!
