An awesome turnout with 14 squad members present. It was straight into corner ball, where players has to pass and move to corner and tag a player. It was good to see players getting those muscles stretched and pulse rates up.
Next players were split into blues and reds and a game commenced. Again it was good to see players remembering what we worked on last week as they were going forwards and trying to stay connected.
After a drink so that they could think it was knees, bum, shoulders. This helped the players to see and feel what it was like to hit the ground safely. To put players under pressure the player on the ground was encouraged to pop the ball and the supporting player to go forward.
Next the players were split into units of 4 where they were able to see that a long reach, rotation of the shoulders and superman hands kept them connected and the ball alive.
Careful analysis and the players were mixed up and a full game commenced. After some stop and show comments from the game coach the players on both sides were beginning to see that even if they were not involved with the rugby ball they needed to move into space so that they could still go forward and stay connected.
After the "this one for the winner" the final whistle blew the squad gathered around and took a knee for the final words from the coaching squad.
Remember to ask your rugby brain what is the 1 thing I need to stop doing and the 1 thing I need to start doing to improve my going forwards and staying connected skills?
