Due to some squads being of mixed ages the P4 Tournament ended up being a three team pool involving the hosts, Dundee and Mackie with each team playing each other twice.
After sitting out the opening tie Mackie took the field against Carnoustie and promptly scored from the first play. Mackies defence then took over and great pressure lead to a second try. A spirited home side kept battling but Mackie ran out easy winners. 7 _ 1
Next up were Dundee who presented a sterner test with two quick wingers and a couple of strong forwards. This game was indeed much closer as Mackie couldn't quite kill off their opponent's. The final score was 6_3
Mackie sat out the next game which give the coaches time to spend some time to reinforce some basic points with the team
Initially this didn't seem to work as Carnoustie took an early lead. In a very physical game Mackie fought their way back with strong running. The tackling had improved, defenders rucked and jackled the ball and the defensive line stayed strong Final score was 6-3 to Mackie but at a cost as we took a couple of injuries.
Last up was Dundee again but our patched up team really responded to the challenge . For the first time Mackie really played as a team as the replacements showed their worth. The ball was taken care off, players passed before being tackled and great support lines were run. Mackies try line was defended as if their lives depended on it and by halfway through the game there was only one winner. Mackie ran out 7_2 winners to add another trophy to the collection.
A big thank you to the parents as ever, Carnoustie for their hospitality and Drew Christie for refereeing
