Mackie v Muntly. 14/02/18 @ Mackie Academy.

A new year and a new competition for the U15's to get grips with, the Caledonia Cup. Featuring sides from as far south as Perthshire all the way up to the frozen north of the Highlands.
Luckily for us we were drawn at home to a familiar name in Muntly (for those not aware , the name comes from the combination of two sides Moray & Huntly ) , as previous meetings between us have been sparse with them giving us a right royal spanking up in Huntly in S1 , beating us by a good 30 point margin!

With a couple of good and well attended training sessions under the belt the boys were good to go ,a familiar look and shape of the side were going to be tested by a big ,aggressive looking Muntly side !
With Muntly winning the toss they elected to kick off which gave us the advantage of the blustery, cold wind that was sweeping across the playing fields. ...not a day for a kicking game by all means !!
After a even start for both sides and a couple of scrappy rucks Big H opened the account for the day after some good work by the forwards letting Muntly know that we were here with a purpose! Jacob then scored on 11 in the corner after a good scrum from the pack closely followed by Cammy on 13 after a trademark gallop up the pitch by OG from his own 10 mtr line !!...forwards eh ?!
Harris then opened his tally book after a sublime piece of skill on 15 , a superbly worked 'Dummy X' move from the 22 set up Rikki with an easy conversion below the posts after 3 difficult earlier kicks at goal ..
On 24 Harris burst over for his 2nd of the game just left of the posts after a lovely pass from Rikki .. 3 mins later and Jacob crossed the whitewash after a strong run from Tom to pass to his left for Jacob to run clear ..Rikki scoring the extras.
One way traffic at H/T with the boys growing with confidence in every aspect of the their game , the 2nd half beckoned a repeat performance but this time against the biting wind ...Iain duly obliged after a great run from deep by Lachie who fed Andrew on the wing to motor up the touchline to Muntlys 5 mtr line where we recycled ball out to the left for a great score ..Wee Owen then scored a proper scrum half's try ,sniping over the line after a ruck inside the opposition 5mtr..immediately followed by Tom who showed great strength up the wing to go over for a well deserved try of his own ..Muntly never gave up and their reward was a try on 56 after finding space through the middle and a try below the posts but the red n blacks stormed back to restore the huge margin with Harris scoring his hat-trick (normal service resumed!!) After some fine work by Jonny who stole the ball in the ruck for Harris to score below the posts , Rikki banging the extras over ....

A near perfect performance today from the 20 players that participated, all played a major part in a convincing victory with not one weakness in the side which was fantastic to witness.

Major plaudits to more unsung hero's today , Alec in particular had a very fine game along with Finlay Wynne, Rhys & Wee Owen did the simple things right at scrum half, Zane , Ryan , Finlay T all having good matches coming off the bench and putting the bodies on the line ..
