Mackie Mackie Mackie Oi Oi Oi

At Deeside RFC on the Royal Deeside the opportunity for the squad to blossom and show players, game coaches and parents just how much they had grown from those seedlings planted a long time ago at the beginning of the season arose as the Sun was shining and the skies were blue … most of the time at least!

For the first time this season there were enough players to field 2 teams. This allowed them to play as much game time as was possible. 4 pool games and 1 final depending upon their final position in the pool. A new scoring system which followed the points awarded for the games in the Rugby 6 Nations allowed both teams to score many tries as possible and defend their own try lines with pride and passion.

The principles of play like contest/ possession, go forward, support, continuity, apply pressure and score/ prevent score were on show for all to see in all the games the all the players played in. Just look at the action shots taken by our own "professional photographer".

The squad secured a place in the 1st v 1st pools final and the opposition coach said that the game was so evenly matched, it was very difficult to predict a winner. It just showed how much the Mackie squad had improved and closed the gap between the 2 teams over the season.

After each game all squad members formed a line and shook hands with the opposition and game coaches. Great to see them showing rugby's core values.

After the finals were played it was time to celebrate and the squad finished off with the usual celebratory "do what you want" photo. Needless to say this one didn't come out on film. LOL!

Whether you are a player, game coach, helper, parent or supporter you should be proud for everyone's success at Deeside.

As always ask your rugby brain what is the 1 thing I need to stop doing to improve my rugby skills and what is the 1 thing I need to start doing to improve my rugby skills?

Big thanks to all parents for getting the players the chance to get plenty of rest, sleep and get fuelled up before they arrived for the tournament. Also for getting them there on time, being pitch side supporters in sunny weather and for staying back to help wrap up the event.

Also thanks to our own "professional photographer" for all the action shots of the day.

SquadTASTIC peeps!
