Combined S1/S2 in Try Fest Heaven
Combined squad show their qualities.
It was perfect conditions at Redcloak for the S1/S2’s show how they have developed as a combined squad over the course of the past month. Huntly had shown they were no mugs earlier on in the season when the two sides met so the game was expected to be a close run affair once more. Early exchanges were pretty even until Mackie eventually settled into the game putting the initial points onto the board with a well worked try eventually touched down in the corner by Taylor Davidson. The try was neatly converted by Mikey Mair. This should have been the catalyst to move onto greater things but Mackie then appeared to sit back and let Huntly into the game. The Huntly open-side flanker seemed to carve through the Mackie defence with relative ease on a number of occasions and certainly took some stopping. Thankfully some superb covering tackles and poor support play from his Huntly team mates kept damage to a minimum.
As the game progressed Mackie continued to hit some fine veins of form with some sublime backs play to further add to the scoreboard. Mackie slowly but surely began to open up an unassailable lead but this was interrupted with spells of Huntly dominance as the visitors managed to clock up some well worked tries to reduce the deficit. Again the Huntly openside flanker was instrumental to many of his teams ‘purple’ patches.
As the game entered the third and final 20mins, the Mackie back line again proved dangerous with Zander Begg cutting loose on a number of occasions. The final try of the match game from Calum Leitch who seemed to ‘dance’ through the Huntly defence to score under the posts.
Mackie ran in a total of 11 tries on the day in what proved to be a great team effort. No man of the match award on this occasion as it goes to the whole team. Well done to all those involved.
