Rugby is a simple game
Pass it wide quickly, run round the opposition and score lots of points!
This was another S1/S2 combined game, with by no means our strongest squad. Kirkcaldy arrived with a lot of big players. They played a very direct game, with lots of balls to players running short and straight. We did very well to contain this, put the first tackles in and then rucked well. Ruck was much improved from prior weeks.
Winning the breakdown meant we gave our backs a good supply of ball. There was a tendency for the ball to get stuck in midfield with players cutting back in, but once it went wide, we were able to run round them and score lots of points.
Scrum and lineout were ok.
We still need to improve defensive line speed and attacking alignment. we are too slow to move up in defence and too flat in attack! However the good news is that we had defensive and attacking lines!
While we always had a comfortable lead this was a competitive game that all the squad had to work hard for us to stay ahead. Well done to all the squad players. Our success is based on EVEERY player playing to their potential and supporting their mates.
Across S1/S2 we have a combined squad of around 35. What is particularly pleasing for the coaches is that we know that each player will make a good contribution to the game when we put them on. Well done all.
