Mackie v Caithness

Mackie U16's v Caithness U16 - Redcloaks 17 April 2016
A barebones 15 of Mackie U16's took to the field on Sunday in a Shield semi Final game against the far travelling visitors of Caithness. The Caithness lads leaving it a wee bit late on getting to Redcloaks which was in perfect condition for rugby.
The sizeable visitors were an fair sight with a few large lads in their starting pack who promised to be a handful for the Mackie lads who although smaller in stature were more than up for the match.
The first 15 minutes were all about Mackie who really got in the faces of the opposition sadly though this hard work and dominance never converted into any points. The Mackie lads matched Caithness in all departments with good rucking and getting their fair share of turnover ball.
All the hard work up front was sadly lost in the following 15 minutes where the large Caithness and Scotland winger come centre went on a few rampaging runs making life very difficult for the Mackie defence, this run of breakaways however didn't stop the Mackie lads putting in a great shift and they were eventually rewarded when Kyle Healey managed to dive across the line in the corner after some very hard work from the Mackie pack.
Half time Mackie 5 - 17 Caithness
The Second half was virtually a re-run of the first with loads of Mackie pressure being outdone by quick breaks by the Caithness backs. Mackie scoring a very well worked try through Iwan Kelly pushing over for Mackies only points of the half.
Full time Mackie 10 - 34 Caithness
The end score really doesn't do the Mackie effort justice and although worthy winners in Caithness the end score was rather flattering.
This see's the end of the U16's fifteens season which although a disappointing end bodes well for the team for the future, the U16's now begin a 7's season with a visit to Lathallan 7's tournament which is always a fantastic season opener
