The P4 squad competed last weekend in the annual Dundee Eagles Mini Rugby tournament and came away undefeated champions!

On a glorious day for rugby in Dundee the P4's took to the field last Sunday in their first competitive contact rugby tournament. Up against strong opposition from the hosts Dundee Eagles, McLaren, Curry and Perthshire it was going to be a tough day but one that would give them a good understanding as to how they are progressing against some of the strongest mini rugby outfits around.

First up was Curry and a tight game as both sets of kids struggled at first to find any rhythm but once Mackie's rucking and raptor defense started working the boys pulled clear and managed to win 7-6. Immediately after Curry came McLaren and with hardly a break the boys continued from where they had left Curry and managed to get a much more convincing victory 8-3 against a strong outfit that was ultimately well beaten by a better organized Mackie squad.

A quick break and a switch of pitch brought Perthshire and a fiercely competitive and entertaining game. Again Mackie organisation, strength and teamwork was making the difference and the boys ran out convincing winners against a large and strong Perthshire squad. Last up was the hosts Dundee's Blue Eagles, and in a game that at the time they didn't realize was a tourney decider the boys competed hard to win the right to play their rugby, and with the referee allowing very quick restarts by the opposition that the team had not encountered before they quickly adapted and eventually ran out convincing victors again 9-4. Mackie P4 were Dundee Champions 2017!!

Thanks goes to Dundee Eagles for hosting a very well run and entertaining event, and to the Mackie traveling support who provided every encouragement for the boys in their first taste of competative contact rugby. If this was anything to go by the rest of the season now holds a lot of promise!
