Over the last couple of weekends Mackie P4 Squad have had great success winning their own tournament and coming a close runner up at Grammar

Its been a good couple of weeks for the P4's with some well earned silverware coming from their home tournament last Saturday and a really good runners up set of silver medals from Aberdeen Grammar were they lost only by 1 try to a huge and talented touring Watsonians squad.

This weekend they took on Perthshire, Ellon, Wanderers and Deeside and ran out clear pool winners without losing any games. They then took on a really competative Grammar side who look set to be one of their main opponents for many years to come. In a fiercely fought semi-final Mackie ran out winners by a single try but it could have very easily gone either way. However, today, the Mackie teamwork and never say die spirit got them through to a finl against Garioch.

Garioch were a different challenge again with big fast runners who broke the line frequently only to be prevented scoring by resolute defending shepherding the attackers into touch with barely meters to go. Mackie's own attack was razor sharp and pierced the garioch defense one more time (again) than the defenders did to us to allow the P4's to run out winners of their own tourney in 2017.

Praise has to also go to the boys who played in a Blacks team with some Wanderers players.... these players really stepped up and some of the boys have only been playing a matter of a few weeks. The way they rallied around, supported each other and played with their Wanderers teammates was great to see and they also should be very proud of their efforts.

At P4 its always a "Squad" victory when we manage a win and no more so in this case, without the Blacks pushing the Reds so hard they wouldn't manage to do what they do...

Big thanks to all visiting clubs who played in a great spirit, and to all the Mackie freinds and family who did so much to help on the day (including raking all the grass from the pitches...mammoth effort) ...thanks to all!
