Mackie S1/S2s Triumphant at Huntly.

Huntly vs Mackie S1 / S2. 29.11.2014.

1st third.
A mixed Mackie S1 & S2 team travelled on Saturday morning to face Huntly. The game kicked off and looked from the outset to be evenly matched with the first 5 minutes being played back and forth within the Huntly half. The first scoring opportunity came as Mackie charged after receiving a ball being cleared by Huntly. A good attack saw the Huntly defense guarding their line bravely although Mackie broke through but an unfortunate knock on meant the try was disallowed. Then followed another section of exciting play with good attacks from both sides. Mackie again scrambled for a try on the left wing but a foot in touch leads to a line out on the Huntly 22. Mackie stole the line out and passed out to Matthew Davies who barged through for the first score of the day. A very difficult angle is not converted.

Huntly 0 - Mackie 5

2nd third.
Huntly kicked off and made a good attack deep into Mackie territory. Mackie pulled their defense together Finley Jacobs took possession back for Mackie by ripping the ball from Huntly. A few good plays follow from both sides always being shut down until Logan Grant received the ball from a Mackie scrum, darted down the right hand wing and offloaded to Matthew Davies who evaded a couple of tackle attempts to score the second try of the day. Again not converted.
Huntly restart and again make good penetration into Mackie territory until a turnover ball is carried back to the Huntly 22 by Fraser Lindsey smashing through the Huntly defense demonstrating very effective handing off technique. Mackie fight hard for yardage and following a line out on the right touch line Mackie pass out across the field to Max Nehring who flew over the try line for Mackie’s third try of the day. Not converted (squint posts)
Huntly restart and were quickly shut down and offside call lead to a Mackie scrum which was very well hooked and the ball was quickly moved out to Ethan Thomas on the left wing who swiftly dodged a couple of Huntly bodies to secure the final try of this third. Not converted.

Huntly 0 – Mackie 20

3rd third.
Mackie kick off and performed a good attack into the Huntly half within a few plays the ball was passed again to Matthew Davies who made a great run to score a hat trick between the posts. Not converted.
Huntly answered with a strong attack which for a minute caught Mackie on the backfoot. An offside call resulted in a penalty to Huntly in a dangerous position. Mackie managed to defend the next attack and won possession although pushed into touch on the right side. Mackie won the line out and passed across the pitch in a rapid attack to Owen Stewart who narrowly missed scoring when he was driven into touch at the flag. The line out saw a heavy Mackie drive resulting in a pileup over the Huntly line the bodies were slowly removed to reveal a James Cochrane try. Not converted.
Again Huntly responded valiantly and made a deep attack at the Mackie line. A scrum on the Mackie 22 presented some real pressure and Mackie looked vulnerable for a time while they struggled to clear the ball. Eventually Levi Peddie broke free and made huge yardage at Huntly before being tackled. The possession was retained through the ruck and Matthew Davies attacked again well supported by Owen Vaughn who received the ball to score the final try of the day between the posts. Max Nehring converted for another 2 points.
