Mackie Mini Festival a Great Success

Last weekend Mackie Minis welcomed over 250 children from four other NE rugby clubs for a morning of mini-rugby on the academy playing fields.

Perthshire, Aberdeen Grammar, Deeside and Garioch rugby clubs were welcomed at all mini age groups on a perfect morning for some fast flowing and entertaining rugby....and the hordes of spectators were not to be disappointed!.

All the rain over the previous few days had left the ground at Mackie perfect for rugby...just hard enough to take a stud, but soft enough to ensure the kids got sufficiently "clarted up" to put a strain on the North Easts power showers around Sunday lunchtime.

Across all the groups the clubs enjoyed some round-robin competition with the emphasis on game improvement and match practice rather than the score....not that that took anything away from the ferocity of the competition, but it all went off with a high level of sportsmanship and respect that you expect in rugby.
As ever the tea tent and BBQ was very popular .....almost so much so that you might think some of the kids only come for the hotdogs and drinks at the end!....but over all, after a energetic 2.5 hours, everyone left with smiles on their faces having enjoyed a fantastic mornings sport.

As the Winter now begins to draw in the opportunity for such events will grow less so it's be back down to some hard training in some not so pleasant weather...but on Sunday's showing the Spring and Summer is looking bright for the Mackie squads if they keep playing like they did last weekend!

Thanks to everyone from Mackie helping to put on the event for the kids, and to the visiting clubs for making it a great day.
