Mackie v Gordonstoun
By Colin Mair
The Mackie squad seem to be having no luck during the second half of the season.
Several injuries and unavailable players means things have been tough going.
That said this was a game the boys knew they could win. After conceding a couple of really soft tries to the BIG Gordounstoun opensider the boys got themselves organised. They dominated the game for huge parts both in possesion and territory. Unfortunately the last pass didnt stick and several tries went a begging. This coach was watching and thinking that this was going to be one of those games that we dominate every aspect of the game yet lose. within minutes of that thought the unbelievable came true. from a dropped ball on the Gordonstoun 5m line and the resultant penalty kick?? the visitors cleared their lines, the lineout was won by mackie but again the pass was poor and the gordonstoun team were on it like a flash. a good pick up and they were over the line. A heart breaking result for the boys, after dominating the game to lose to a sucker punch was gutting. That said so many positives came out of the game, possibly the main one was the transformation from Full Back to second row by David Talbert
. Never has this coach seen a player adapt so well and more importantly the player looked to be having the time of his life in his new found position!!
